“Outsider Art: The Collection of Victor F. Keen” Travels to INTUIT in Chicago

Many of the works that live at Bethany Mission Gallery have been traveling the country since September of 2019. Their first stop was at the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center (SDC), in Pueblo, Colorado—the collector’s hometown. The show includes more than thirty-eight artists represented by 127 of their creations and was on view through January of 2020. Immediately after, the entire contents traveled to Chicago, where it is currently on view at INTUIT: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art, with an extension through September 7, 2020.

On Saturday, February 8, INTUIT’s curator Alison Amick, collector Victor F. Keen, and gallerist Frank Maresca convened for a public conversation about the exhibition. A showcase of one of the premier collections of outsider art in the United States, with more than 35 of the genre’s most famous artists, the discussion revolved around Keen’s collecting journey, the works in his expansive collection and stories about artists he has collected in depth.
